fourth studio album .
Hooshyar Khayam:
Piano
Amir Minoo-Sepehr: Violin (appearing in one piece)
The
instrumental sonnets in this album are ghazals for piano
resembling the poetries of the famous Iranian poet Ahmadreza
Ahmadi. Thousand Acacias is Hooshyar’s second solo album
after Tatari
Ankido Darash: Cello (acoustic and electric Cello, Piano)
Atefeh Tehrani, Mana Kashyian: Voice
Atefeh Tehrani, Maryam Shirazi, Poupak Mozaffari: Whispers
Amir Sadeghi Konjani: Bell
The
contemporary pieces on this album are based for
Cello accompanied by voice, whispers and piano, which could be
categorized in “Happening Art” or rather “Common Practice”.
Based on Zoroastrian mythology and tales, the tree Saena was
the symbol of fertility and life on earth. When the symbolic and
supernatural bird Simorgh (Si or “thirty”, Morgh or “bird”)
alights on the tree and spreads its wings, seeds of Saena fall
on the ground, creating life. This concept album is performed by
a Tombak and recorded without any recourse to the usual studio
techniques.
Hossein Alizadeh performs solo on Shurangiz. In the first part,
Shurangiz is tuned in the fourth measure and with metal strings
in the Avaz-e Afshari mode of Persian music. In the second part,
the instrument, with a combination of gut and metal strings, is
played in the Dastgah-e Homayoun mode.
Shouresh (Tar) and Sohrab (Tombak) play
tribute to one of Iran's remarkable Tombak players. The first
part is an improvisation in Nava mode and the second part
composed pieces in Chahargah.
Zarbang
is a collective of the finest percussionists from Iran and
Afghanistan. Inspired by tribal rhythms, they utilize
instruments of various cultures while staying true to the
essence and origin of each. This new sound entails the use of
vocalization, melody and various effects in the context of
percussion. Zarbang’s sound is dynamic, meditative and internal
on one hand and ecstatic and trance inducing on the other,
drawing upon Sufi and ancient Persian rhythms used for inducing
altered states.

Featuring original
soundtracks of Reward of Silence (Maziar Miri), A
Piece of Bread (Kamal Tabrizi) and Friday's Soldiers (Massoud
Kimiai), Peyman himself explains: I have a special
relationship with each of these scores. Reward of Silence made it possible to pay homage
to the magic wind instrument duduk. When the director of
Friday's Soldiers painted the world of his movie for me, I
started composing the score in a way that was diametrically
opposed to the geography and lore of its setting. In A Piece of
Bread I was inspired by a long forgotten maqam called Sahari,
revived by my friend and cousin Kiya Tabassian. It allowed me to
enter an abstract world of ancient music. All these were
opportunities that the magic screen afforded me.

Tatari-Hooshyar
Khayam
Total Time 53:07
Tatari is a
collection of compositions for piano intended as concert
pieces, challenging the pianist with difficult but fluent
techniques.
Some fall into the known collections traceable to Bach’s
Well Tempered Klavier, some to the roots of Persian
Folklore in its abrupt formal structure, its obstinacy,
and its fluid inner rhythm, some enjoying techniques of
mute notes and complex rhythms close to the music of the
Boushehr musical style of the Persian Gulf region as well
as vibrant pieces in the spirit of the music of Ravi
Shankar and Hossein Alizadeh, though on a Western instrument. The seriousness of expression and abstract structure,
its new
as well as old pianism, and its roots deep in Persian
music, deserves critical attention to Tatari.

the percussions of Mohsen Kasirossafar (Iran) Aspontaneous, happy and worthy union of the most genuine
bucolic and pastoral tradition, reached to us from a remote and
common past of the ancient Indo-European cultures. Fanciful
melodies of sylvan songs come to the surface at times
uncontaminated, from the noise of the centuries. The myth of the
Arcadians seems to revive in deep and evocative notes of the
pipes, in the refined rhythms of the Persian Tombak and Daf. (Kaval

Massoud Shaari (Setar)
Darshan Jotsingh Anand (Tabla)
Manu Codjia (Electric Guitar)
Journey is the fruit of collaboration between two musicians, Massoud Shaari, a traditional Iranian musician and a virtuoso of Persian setar and Christophe Rezaï, a French-Iranian composer of European culture.
Journey is introduced under the form of five pieces for Setar evoking four different modalities and therefore four different ambiences of traditional Persian music.
The Indian tabla (played by the Indian Darshan Jotsingh Anand), closely linked to the setar, takes us further to the east towards Indian tradition, which has many common points with Persian music.
Furthermore the accompaniment by classical or contemporary orchestral formations such as Strings, Electric Jazz Guitar, Sound Effects... takes us to the west towards the "European musical tradition" of the 21st century.
Somehow it is a journey across the world of Indo-European cultures.

Navid Afghah: Tombak
The story of
Creation is the most important chapter in the mythology of the
Babylonian civilization. Based on an ancient Sumerian tale, the
order of the universe was built upon a dramatic confrontation
between a Dragon-shaped creature who ruled the darkness, storms
and the seas, and Mardukh, the God of Babylon. After over
forcing the devil-hearted Dragon, Mardukh created the sky and
the stars, the trees, animals and finally mankind.Genesis
is formed in three separate parts: Genesis, Universe, Life . Genesis,
the album, is a remarkable experiment, using the diverse sound
generating capabilities of Iran's traditional Drum, the Tombak.
Navid Afghah, a young talented musician and Tombak player, tells

Music is the son of industrial and modern communities. A style which
its presence could not be denied in Iran as well. We always searched
for a kind of RockMusic
which was initiated from the heart of our own society and not just
imported from the western world. By using folk melodies and
traditional basements, Barad tried to blend its music with such an
idea. An experience which is making its primary steps.
